So many people in business throw around the word “mentor.” Mentorship is largely a myth. The reason for this is there is a small supply of people who are capable of mentoring, and their time is precious and limited. There’s also a small supply of people who are very good at attracting and keeping mentors. The vast majority of people are not. That means most successful people will learn from a lot of people, their peers, their day to day actions and have to absorb information and advice from many mediums. This is a good thing, because it creates agency. Mentorship is largely a story told after one’s rise, not before or during. Better to know you’re alone and piecing it together than to look for a guide who never arrives.
