The illegal immigrant accused of taking the lives of three Americans in Florida was nearly deported, but said he was 'scared' to go back to India, so he was allowed to stay.
Harjinder Singh illegally entered the United States through California in 2018.
Singh had initially been processed for expedited removal; however, he claimed he had "fear of returning to his home country," according to Fox News.
"A fear that was affirmed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, he was released on a $5,000 immigration bond," Fox reported.
According to DHS, Singh is not married, has no dependent children, and is not a victim of domestic violence.
He has "no known immediate relatives serving in the U.S. military and is not the primary caretaker of a person with mental or physical disability, a minor or person with a serious illness," DHS said in a statement.
